Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are the stars of the new vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The movie is about a blue collar working dad who wants to provide for his child's happiness. But, his mundane job at the pool in San Fernando Valley serves as a front for hunting and killing Vampires as part of an international Union of vampiric hunters.The premise sounds interesting, but can J.J. Jamie Foxx and a young lady named Vampire are in a crazy action scene that opens "Day Shift". The sequence then turns into a mad fight between the two. I felt that the movie had a lot of fun using this type of ragdoll Physics in its action sequences, which makes them pop in an action scene that many other Netflix action movies or action blockbusters don't. When you watch a scene like this, it is easy to remember the old saying "action speaks louder that words", and while I agree with the statement, I think the key to "Day Shift's" success is the way it uses dialogue and action to develop the characters and further the plot. Jamie Foxx's villain, the vampire, is killed. His partner has a hilarious exchange about how he thought she was going "to turn into a bat, or something". These are the moments that make "Day Shift", a movie unlike any other.
Day Shift has the quality of a bad movie. It's obvious what they were trying but it was so disappointing. It's a poor production with mediocre acting and a stilted dialogue. The plot is also void of any real substance. However, it was still enjoyable. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for vampire movies, or maybe it's because I just enjoy watching bad movies. Day Shift was a fun movie. It's not a great flick, but it's fun. That's all I need from a movie of this quality.
Day Shift is a mixed film. On one hand, there is a lot of fun action scenes and some fun characters (the two brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible, a lot of mediocre characters, though I guess that helps the better characters shine even more. There seemed to be missing scenes that were cut. Bud's neighbor behaves like she's a friend, even though she only had three minutes of screen time before the final scene. Bud started making prank phone call after she got to work at the gas station. This was the best part of the movie. It was funny, and it was a great movie. The movie's rest was not as enjoyable. So, overall, I'd say that Day Shift is a mixed bag. There are good parts, and there are bad parts. However, if you (watch video) want to have some fun, there are better movies than this one.
Snoop dogg was something I almost forgot to mention. He's amazing in Day Shift. The whole movie is worth it because of him. I mean, his character is hilarious, and he has some great lines. But he is also so natural in his role. It's almost as if he was meant to do it.
